TROUBLESHOOTING - Engine does not idle well when adjusting Idle Target

Created by Caleb Reedy, Modified on Mon, 6 Oct, 2025 at 3:05 PM by Caleb Reedy

When adjusting idle in the EMU Client, it is necessary to disable all forms of idle control including ignition idle control and any additional idle corrections, set what idle RPM Target in its table, adjust the "Idle Ref Table" vs CLT from the first start in the morning to match your set "Idle Target RPM" table, then add any AC and cooling fan corrections required to keep the target RPM. (See link below for adjusting idle)

- If idle problems continue, adjustment of the throttle plate idle screw may be required (be sure to rest TPS calibration voltage if idle screwed is changed).

- Idle RPM may be too low for larger cams.

- Idle valve may be faulty or configured incorrectly.

- EMU may not be entering idle mode due to idle parameter settings.

- TPS may not be calibrated (See TPS Calibration: step in the EMU First Start Checklist link for procedure on the Downloads page)
