TROUBLESHOOTING - EMU Black Connection Issues

First, make sure your EMU is powered on. By default it will beep when it is connected to power.

If it does not, you will need to check that B13 and G18 are connected to 12v, and that B28 is connected to ground. Make sure you are reading the pinout looking into the EMU Black.

You can use a multimeter set to DC voltage to measure between:

B13 and a ground. It should read battery voltage. (around 12V)

G18 and a ground. It should read battery voltage.

B28 and a ground. It should read 0V

Also measure resistance between B28 and ground. It should read less than 10 Ohms.

If one or more of those is not reading correctly, that is most likely your issue.

If your EMU beeps once or all of the voltages check out, make sure you are using the correct type of USB cable. It should support data, not just power. You can test this by connecting another device such as your phone. It should be able to transfer pictures or files to your laptop, not just charging. It should make a USB connection noise if your laptop volume is turned up.

You should be connecting to a USB A port on your laptop or to an OTG USB A adapter. Connecting directly to a USB C port or using a very basic USB A to C adapter will not work most of the time.

Make sure you have the correct USB drivers installed.

The driver can be found here: https://www.ecumaster.com/downloads/

You can check and change your current driver version in the windows "Device Manager". The EMU will show up as "USB Serial Converter"

Make sure you have the correct software downloaded for your device. For the EMU Black, it will be "Ecumaster EMU BLACK" or "Ecumaster EMU BLACK V3"

Both of these software versions can be found here: https://www.ecumaster.com/downloads/

Scroll down to the "EMU Black" section and look for "EMU Black V* software package *.***"

If you have triple checked all of those and still have issues connecting to your EMU. Let us know and we can help.
