Here is a breakdown of some features of each EMU starting from the most basic and going to the most advanced. Based on what features you need, you can find the correct EMU for you.
Typically the EMU Black is a good option for most cars, and if you need more custom features or more inputs and outputs you would go with the EMU Pro 8 or 16.
EMU Classic:
Good for up to 6 cylinder engines.
Supports up to 6 ignition coils.
Supports up to 6 fuel injectors.
Has 6 AUX outputs.
Has 4 stepper motor outputs.
Built in controller for 1x LSU 4.2 WBO sensor.
Built in 4 Bar MAP sensor.
Supports 2x Knock sensors.
Supports 2x EGT sensors.
Supports 2x VVT Cams.
Supports Flex Fuel
There are also a couple external modules in order to support DBW or CAN, but it is recommended to step up to the EMU Black if you need these features.
EMU Black:
Best with up to 6 cylinder engines.
Supports 6 ignition coils, for a v8 you will need to run wasted spark ignition.
Supports 8 injectors sequentially
Supports VW DSG transmissions.
Has 6 AUX outputs.
Has 4 H-Bridge outputs.
Supports controlling a DBW throttle body directly.
Built in controller for 1x LSU 4.2 or 4.9 WBO sensor.
Built in 4 Bar MAP sensor.
Supports 2x Knock sensors.
Supports 2x EGT sensors.
Supports 2x VVT Cams
Supports Flex Fuel
Built in pullup and pulldown resistors on analog inputs.
Has 2 more analog inputs than the classic.
Has 3 additional switch inputs.
Supports CAN Bus directly.
Fully open custom CAN stream messaging.
EMU Pro 8:
Best with up to 8 cylinder engines.
Supports 8 ignition coils for fully sequential ignition on a V8.
Supports 8 injectors sequentially
Can support direct injectors when paired with our GDI module.
Supports VW DSG transmissions.
Supports some automatic transmissions A340 4L60/80. (More to come)
Has 12 AUX outputs. (Unused injector outputs can be used as AUX as well)
Has 6 H-Bridge outputs.
Supports controlling 2x DBW throttle bodies directly.
Built in controller for 2x LSU 4.9 WBO sensors.
Supports 2x Knock sensors.
Supports 2x EGT sensors.
Supports 4x VVT Cams
Supports Flex Fuel
Built in pullup and pulldown resistors on analog inputs.
Has 16x analog inputs (temperature sensors, pressure sensors...)
Has 8x digital inputs (cam, crank, wheels speed, turbo speed, flex fuel...)
Supports LIN bus.
Supports 2x CAN Busses directly.
Supports SENT with the GDI Module.
Supports 500Hz datalogging to a flash drive.
Fully open custom CAN stream messaging.
Project tree lets you create almost any custom function.
Flexible software allows you to modify any table from 2D to 3D or 4D and change any channel on any axis.
EMU Pro 16:
Best with up to 12 cylinder engines.
Supports 12 ignition coils for fully sequential ignition on a V12.
Supports 16 injectors.
Can support direct injectors when paired with our GDI module.
Supports VW DSG transmissions.
Supports some automatic transmissions A340 4L60/80. (More to come)
Has 14 AUX outputs. (Unused injector outputs can be used as AUX as well)
Has 8 H-Bridge outputs.
Supports controlling 2x DBW throttle bodies directly.
Built in controller for 2x LSU 4.9 WBO sensors.
Supports 2x Knock sensors.
Supports 4x EGT sensors.
Supports 4x VVT Cams
Supports Flex Fuel
Built in pullup and pulldown resistors on analog inputs.
Has up to 20x analog inputs (temperature sensors, pressure sensors...)
Has up to 10x digital inputs (cam, crank, wheels speed, turbo speed, flex fuel...)
This list mainly includes the hardware features. If you have any questions about if it will support a specific feature in the software, you can download the software for free or send us an email to ask about it.
Here are a few key points to look out for to make sure your engine is compatible with our EMU's.
